“FTLY” means Faster Than Last Year here at this race.
Notes: Phyllis hadn’t raced a 5K since Thanksgiving. Four of us who had also run that hot & humid Labor Day 5K were 1 1/2 to 2 minutes FASTER on this perfect weather day (and the courses had exact same length and degree of hills). This year’s course was slightly longer than last year’s (3.09 miles to 3.06) due to the turn on Loker Street (off Hartford St) rather than a block earlier on C Street. Ed Stoll, Bob Cargill, Mike Bower, Lisa and 13-year-old son Sam Burgess (who was 1st Overall!) had all run the Reach the Beach relay a week earlier (legs totalling at least a half-marathon distance apiece). And although John Joyce didn’t get a FTLY, his time was only :05 off last year here – so a FTLY age-graded!
Katie Scafaldi is the former Katie Sullivan (married recently!). Greg and Nicole Rotatori joined the GFRC just this month.
