Paddy Kelly 5 Miler

Sunday, 11 a.m., Feb. 9, 2020, Brockton (half in Avon) around D.W.Field Park’s pond (“30 Acre Pond”); ~30, no wind, sunny, fairly flat course (only 3-4 shallow upgrades); trophies 3 deep, usual age groups; pasta and one free beer afterwards. The Colonial Runners did a great job of putting this on! Results by Racewire.com. Photos by not only Racewire at the finish (prob by tomorrow), but also by Bob Cargill mostly indoors (plus videos) and others of all eight of us by our own Ted Tyler at around the 4-mile mark (prob by tomorrow too).

Notes:
Friday was Darlene‘s birthday! What a nice way (see award above) to celebrate! (A TROPHY for her placing in her age group) And brought her sister from Chicago along for racing company! Abby McCabe survived her hike up Mt. Monadnock yesterday (!) where it was “beautiful, cold, icy, windy” and worried a little today (29 degrees) about whether she had enough on – but PLACED 2nd (see above). John Joyce had had a calf injury in Dec., and planned to “go light” – but look how he did! A 72.40% WAVA!! Bob Cargill had run the day before a training run of 9 1/4 miles in 11:33’s. “I’m training for a marathon (Boston),” he explained! Amy Pearl expected nothing before the race, but did nice 10:11’s! Sue Richardson dieted away the equivalent of a men’s shotput (you look it up – the weight) and improved her 2-years-ago 5K pace (New Year’s) by 42 seconds! Jim Finn, who now sports a GFRC shirt, was only 0:14 off his 2-years-ago time here.
Bob Cargill was only 0:06 off his pace of 3 years ago here (he’s supposed to slow by 4 seconds a year!) Yours Truly was only 9:29 slower – that’s MINUTES – than only 3 years ago here. Woulda been even slower if not for hearing, “Go Joe!!” from Abby just after going by her cheering us on. Joe Koziol has been pouring on the training lately so as to be ready for the Hyannis 10K or its half marathon in 2 weeks. He might even do the OFTM (10 mi) next Sunday.
